Ok, here we go again guys, so bear with me...
Once again I am doing what I have been doing so often lately, and that is I am laying around with little to do (or more accurately; plenty to do but nothing that I really want to get involved in), when suddenly out of the blue a concept or idea dawns on me and I feel the sudden temptation to just go out and execute the idea. The problem is, sometimes I get into these ideas a bit hastily, and am notorious for changing my mind at random intervals or getting so into my idea that I cause arguments with those around me (Miiralaeuntryr can attest to the many times she has felt the desire to PK me ), but this idea is one of those that seems like a good idea, so I am bringing it to y'all...
There are currently four shards on Ultima Online that still maintain a somewhat active community of players - Siege Perilous, Pacific, Catskills, and Europa. The other shards, including Baja have completely fallen apart in the roleplay scene, but at one time we too were pretty well populated and doing well. What the former shards have in common is that they each have an active Roleplay Community Council of some sort, or something that encourages roleplayers to come togeather and reminds them all that they still exist - CoRE on Europa (Community of Roleplayers; Europa), the PRC (Pacrific Roleplay Community), the Catskills Roleplayers Association, and the White Council (a primarily good oriented council of guilds, similar to a encompassing roleplay community except that it focuses on good, which is why Siege is unique in the amount of good RP guilds and the lack of evil ones like Catskills and Baja, once upon a time). At one point even Baja had a roleplayers association, led by Legothir Sageon, but that fell through when he was having health problems and conflicts began to occur between guilds such as the Dark Tower and the Rangers of the Realm.
What I have noticed though is that Baja does have some roleplayers, but they are usually few and far between, and sometimes these remaining roleplayers are people who are coming back, still guilded to their various guilds (such as Dawn), but they see their once glorious guilds gone and have a hard time finding others. So here is something I thought might be a good idea...
We have some roleplayers, and I have ran into a few roleplayers and have bumped into a few returning members from guilds such as Avalon or Dawn. They come back with the impression that roleplay is completely dead on Baja (which is not far from the truth), and I would like to try to help roleplayers get togeather, run events, and basically be able to know that we all exist.
So what is my proposition?
I am considering making a new character using my sixth character slot to act mainly as a utility character (he might be a clone of one of my main characters) - either that or I will make him a Bard/Theif named Vaan the Herald or something like that (it kind of popped into my head a few minutes ago *Chuckles*). What would I do with this character...? And what is the main part of the proposition? (Yeah, get to the point Dragon!)
1. I would create a utility guild known as the Baja Roleplayers Association or the Baja Roleplayers Community (Baja or BRPC). The guilds charter would be "Utility Stone For Roleplaying Alliances and Community Events". I would not be creating a vast, byzantine organization with elected officials such as Legothir was attempting, nor would I claim leadership in some way over this community (as some have tried in the past). I would simply take the effort to attempt to link the roleplay guilds through alliances and attempt to make an open forum for each of us to get togeather and co-exist. I would basically send alliance invitations to guilds such as the Dark Warriors of the Lumi, the Kingdom of Dawn, the Citizens of Avalon, and so on and so fourth. I would also offer alliances to event and community building guilds who are not necessarily roleplay guilds such as the Underground Knights, the Baja Auction House, and the Baja Society of Archers (each of which have some ties to roleplayers and focus on rebuilding the Baja Community). I would facilitate some sort of forum, perhaps here on the Sanctuary Boards or on a separate board for these communities to get togeather.
2. I would use the Keeper of the Stone character as some sort of Herald, Crier, and Quest-Giver, who would attempt to facilitate events and use politics to facilitate community in and out of character.
3. I would make every attempt to encourage roleplay between the entirety of the roleplay community. One of the flaws Baja always had was that we spent much of our time roleplaying amongst each other and not other roleplay guilds. There is no one that is at fault or to blame, its just that things just happen that way.
4. I would also encourage the creation of smaller, grass-roots guilds that make the attempt to do something different or bring something to the community rather than the varied all encompasing guilds of the past. We have already talked about making multiple small guilds where some of our characters are guilded and whatnot.
I do not think this would be something too difficult. I am not trying to create something huge, or have some delusion of leading the Baja roleplay community to rival Europa or something, but I do hope that I can contribute and bring something that the other roleplayers havent bothered to do.
Another few propositions I had are these...
1. I am considering setting up some sort of crafting oriented guild that would function somewhat as a roleplaying merchant organization. We would attempt to work on our crafters and get togeather to mutually benefit one another, helping each other get the resources we need and provide armor and repairs for all our characters (for instance, I am making a Blacksmith and Malabelle is going to be a tailor, so that our characters and Katsumoto's can eventually get most of the important crafting skills and mutually benefit one another). The trading company itself would have a few bases in both Trammel and Felucca, and would have secret ties to some of the more darker elements of Sosaria in an attempt to beat the competition (such as the Arbiters of Silence and Malabelle's Pirates). They would be based out of the Smokin' Wench in Sanchrist, Minas Lawrence (when it is constructed) near Trinsic, so on and so fourth. We would also help each other and would rent vendor spaces in Luna where we would hawk our wares (even if we have to get another account and sqweeze a 7x7 somewhere, lol). While being tied to darker groups, the merchant company would also attempt to give itself a good image by hosting events and sponsoring the Blue Mojo Theater Company. *Snickers*
2. I am probably going to make some semi-PvP oriented guild at some point, with someone at the leadership. Kind of thinking of taking this element of Kessell and kind of orienting him as a Roy Mustang character. *Chuckles*
3. When I am able to get my own computer and were able to log on at once, I wanted to get us all togeather to go to places such as Doom, Treasure Hunting, and Champion Spawns so that we could all get items to mutually benefit one another (since we all could use the money and the equipment).
There would only be one rule to these hunts - whatever we find goes first to the ones who need it most, first to whose characters are there, second to alts, and then third for sale. So, say for instance we were all in Doom togeather - Mugen Jubei, Dagger, Santiago, Calyndrell, Gala, and Vassago. Suddenly the Holy Knights Breastplate drops off of the Dark Father. Well, obviously that would benefit Calyndrell the most, so he gets first pick. If he doesnt need it, then we would decide on whos alternate needs it the most. So, if it just so happened that the Shadow Dancers Leggings dropped, well Sphinxy could use it, but she is on Vassago so if another character who is there could use it, that character gets first pick. If that character doesnt need it, then Vassago gets next choice for Sphinx. If Sphinx already has the Shadow Dancers Leggings, and we find another one, then we could either roll for it, decide whoever grabs it keeps it, or sell it at Luna and distribute the wealth between the entire group. This way, everyone benefits...and suddenly we sound like Communists. *Laughs*
4. Sometime in the next few months, I am considering having twice a week PvP practice out in front of the Smokin' Wench, so that we all get practices up and good.
How does this sound to everyone? I have kind of rambled a few ideas like this off to Rachael, but I wanted to see what everyone thought?
